Mission: Deliver information and mail.

Total personnel: about 70 million.
Wartime personnel: about 115 million after the activation of the mothball fleets.

Use the Other/specialist training with Courier crews:normally one of the star ship packages as base. The extra training package is most often something technical.

Other personnel ranges from the large numbers of wire rats to manage the mail computers to postal investigators.

Most of the personnel are in the service end, handling customer relations and such. About 20 million form the mail ship part, with about half of that being on the ships, quarter the support and quarter the switch crew for the ships.

The imperial postal service is everywhere, they serve more than 500 000 imperial worlds and more than 100 000 non imperial worlds. Between major worlds there are likely several couriers/day, but the smaller colonies might be visited by a mailship only once a month(the minimum frequency for such)

Most of the things transferred is information. The interstellar data transfer is kept really low price on purpose and the service good to make most everyone use the imperial services. The fee is flat regardless of distance to promote Imperial unity. The information transferred at the base cost has gone up several times and is likely to continue to do so in order to promote communication.

The postal service also offers parcel service at much higher cost, but it is based on actual distance and weight.

In the runs to the smaller colonies they also offer up to 4 spaces in the bunkrooms of the mail ships on a first come first serve basis. On some smaller colonies the mail ships are the only regular transportation.

Has much less high ranking officers that the size of the service would indicate. The support teams are many members to a leader and as there are no ships larger than mail ships in service the need to have high ranking officers is lessened.

Everyone in the mail ship part service has a personal vacsuit armor as uniform. Most have Nanoweave Vacc Suits. The others are in a nanoweave suit.

Note that even the basic customer service person is an imperial trooper, likely armed and in armor even on core worlds.

Postal service and everyone else:

• The postal service delivers he messages for everyone else in the imperial service, so there is a fair bit of interaction. They also control more than 99% of the non imperial interstellar message traffic, so they also interact with almost everyone else in the empire at some point.
