Starships
Normal travel speed of starships is counted in parsecs/day and typically is 1-2/day, most new imperial warships are 3 pc/day and some special ships reach 4 pc/day.
Most normal starhips are TL 10, The newest imperial warships and noble ships are TL 11. Many older ships are still in use with some TL9 designs still in use in millions.
Traditional Starship design is a tube with multiple decks allowing actions in the thrust even if the gravitic compensators fail and allow operations at higher accelerations than grav compensators can compensate for. (Always in TL 9 designs as they do not have grav compensators unless retrofitted, The norm in TL 10 as early grav compensators were fairly unreliable and low compensation, still common at TL 11 due to both tradition and possible combat damage in military ships at TL 11, very uncommon in civilian ships at tl 11)
“New style” layout consists of a main deck and other decks rotated 90 degrees from the direction of thrust usually having a main corridor along the length of the ship. (The normal layout in most TL 11 civilian ships and in smaller TL 11 military ships like scouts)
Buying/Selling
The prices below are the “new mature typical list price” of ships. In reality the prices most pay fro them are different. Below are modifiers:
TL:
TL 11: Currently base *5 price
TL 10: No modifier(There are very few totally new such ships, though a lot of new like condition)
TL 9: *.8 price (in addition most are starting to be in fairly bad shape)
Condition:
New: Rush delivery/construction: *1.25
New: Normal delivery: *1
Used but new like condition *0.9 price
Used, fair condition: *0.8 price (-1 HT)
Used: bad condition: *0.7 price (-2 HT)
Used: Barely usable condition: *0.6(-3 HT)
Used: Nonusable condition *0.5(-4HT)
Each specific major failure (or 3 minor failures): -0.1 base price.
Major failures:
Bad handling -3 to handling rolls
Specific subsystem has -3 HT.
Navigation systems glitched: -3 to space/hyperspace navigation
Minor failures:
Bad handling -1 to handling rolls
Life support system produces bad odors, murky water and similar
Specific subsystem has -1 HT
Out of tune grav systems: all personal maneuver rolls are at -3 when under thrust.
Out of tune reactionless drive: Drive starts to lose acceleration far before reaching 1% light speed, causing the time to 1% takes twice as long.
Some electric system blanks out at times, but is fixable:
sensors
communicators
lights
electricity to kitchen appliances
Navigation systems glitched: -1 to space/hyperspace navigation
down to about *0.1 price for a hulk to be broken up for materials.
Military
Warships
Warship classes:
Scouts are normally less than 30 meters long, weight about 300 tons and have a crew of 4 to 8. They are used for scouting, survey and general utility use. The empire operates millions of these. Many of the newer ones have cloaking devices making detecting them very hard.
Corvettes are not used by the empire, but some local defense forces use these 1000 ton/50 meter long ships.
Frigates are the normal light warship. They are less than 70 meters long and weight about 3000 tons. They are big enough to carry reasonable armament and several squads of troops, allowing operation alone if need be.
Light cruisers are built on hulls under 100 meters and weighting 10 000 tons. They are operated by most armed forces, but the empire is not building any more of them as the increased capability of the new frigates combined with the smaller operating crew and other requirements have made this class obsolete.
Heavy cruisers are the main warship. Built in 150 meter long 30 000 ton hulls, these war machines are bristling with armament. They form the main combat force of the imperial fleets.
Battleships are a new development, These huge ships are almost 500 meters long and built on a million ton hulls. They are meant to give a core of heavy firepower to the most important fleets. However their survivability in combat is not yet proven and each is a huge investment. This, combined with their inability to use the gates due to the weight has caused a lot of skepticism.
