Roswell Class Scout

The second new imperial scout ship, mostly used by other imperial services than the navy, being less armed than Vixen-class.

It is a fast, long-ranged, and stealthy special-operations vessel designed to insert and retrieve first-contact or covert survey teams even on high-tech worlds without being detected by radar or passive sensors. It has an streamlined 300-ton (SM +7) hull 26 meters in length. Reactionless drives allow silent landing and takeoff. It is armed for self-defense and for protecting landing parties, but normally it relies on stealth, its cloaking device to avoid detection and stay out of trouble.

It has artificial gravity and gravitic compensators. The hull has multispectral chameleon and radar stealth for orbital/atmospheric operations.

They layout is “New style” with the maindeck along the axis of the ship, rotated 90 degrees from the direction of thrust.

The main deck had from front to back:

  • Control room(2 front facing workstations “Pilot”, “Sensor/EW” and a sideways facing workstation behind them “Gunnery”)
  • Main Airlock just behind the control room: Space for 4 people
  • The laboratory/lifepods/drones and sickbay facing each other on opposite sides of the main corridor
  • Elevator(1 person) down and the ladder shaft from uppter turret, to main deck to lower deck to lower turret
  • The bunkroom/commonroom and the cell facing each other
  • 4 cabins
  • Rear Airlock: space for 2 people.
  • the engine room.

Lower deck:

  • Elevator(1 person) up to main deck and the ladder shaft to upper turret, to main deck to lower deck to lower turret
  • Vehicle bay: Maximum load size 3ton/sm +3 each.

The typical complement consists of three control crew, one technician, and one turret gunner (the other turret is run from the control stations). In war footing it will likely get a second shift and some marines.

The ship can be operated by two people with relative ease,though it results in very long work days and deferred maintenance for noncritical systems. Three or four people is a more proper long term crew.

Patrol and postal inspectors normally staff these with 5 person crew and 4 deplyoable agents.

Rangers tend to place 6-8 rangers in these, allowing deployment of 4-6 rangers away from the ship and still allow basic ship operations.

Normally the commander has a separate cabin. The second in command has a separate cabin, but there is a second bunk in that cabin that might be used by observers or senior transported personnel. The rest of the crew is 2/cabin in the remaining cabins and the lower rankings are in the bunkroom.
