Army

Basics

Uniform: Green

Mission: Defend the planets of the empire.

Personnel

Total personnel: about 400 million.
Active reserve: about 20 billion that train at least yearly.
Wartime personnel: about 40 billion after the activation of all reserves and general call up, with 60 billion after a training period.
The local non imperial armed forces amount to about 1.2 billion with about 60 billion after the activation of all reserves and general call up and 120 billion after a training period..

Training

The shooter or sniper training packages are most common. Though there specialists of all sorts.

Note that army has Monocrys Subdermal Armor implant instead of bioplast skin(21 more points).

Deployment

Army personnel mostly operate on the planets, with about 20% deployed to navy as ship board troops or navy base security.

They operate in all systems, as even minor colonies normally have small army troop assigned(could be only a single squad).

Note: For unknown reasons army troops deployed on navy ships as ship troops are termed “Marines” and those deployed with the patrol are “Colonial Marines”. Those deployed for ground duty outside primary and secondary systems are known as “Colonial troops”.

Ranks

Army troops tend to be more formal with ranks and rank structures than many other services and full ranks are normally used in all situations.

Structure

The basic army structure is a fire team with a corporal in charge.

  • Infantry fire teams consist of 3 troops. They tend to be in heavy powered armor in the main army and have:
    • Corporal with a 10mm smg+grenade launcher
    • Sniper with a sniper rifle (15mm for powered armor troops, 10mm for non powered)
    • Machine gunner with a chaingun.
  • Armor and vehicle crews are normally fire teams and tend to have 2 people in most cases. They are normally in light powered armor in the main army.
  • 3 Fire teams and a sergeant make up a squad for a total of 10 in the infantry. In vehicles the squad leader is normally one of the vehicle leaders.
  • 3 Squads,a 3 person command element and a 3 person heavy fire team make up a platoon of 36 troops. In vehicles there are normally 10 vehicles.
    • command element: Second Lieutenant, commo/EW technician, Gunnery Sergeant
    • Heavy fire team: 3 troops with pistols and one MLAWs and one IML.
  • 3 platoons and a HQ platoon make up a company(for a total of 144 troops). In vehicles there are normally 32 vehicles+support/supply vehicles.
    • Hq platoon is:
      • 3 man company command element: First Lieutenant+2 commo/EW
      • 3 man medical: doctor, 2 medic.
      • 10 man Supply squad: Master sergeant.
        • 3 man hq element: scribe, commo, Forward observer
        • 3 man transport: 3 drivers.
        • 3 man supply: cook, supply, tech.
      • 10 man scout squad
        • 3*3 man scout/forward observer fire teams
      • 10 man heavy weapons squad
        • 2 cannon teams with a 25mm autocannon.
        • 1 heavy missile team with TML

Equipment

Infantry:

  • Army active infantry is rapidly switching to Dreadnought Battlesuits with 22 million in service and 4.5 million more/year. The rest of active infantry is in Heavy Battlesuits
  • Category 1 reserve infantry is in Heavy Battlesuits, with about 400 million in service. They train about 12 weeks/year.
  • Category 2 reserve infantry has Commando Battlesuits, with about 1 billion in storage. They train about 4 weeks/year.
  • Category 3 reserve infantry has Powered Combat Armor(1 billion) or Powered Space Armor(3.5 billion) or Powered Combat Hardsuit(7.5 billion) They train about 1 week/year.
  • Category 4 reserve infantry has nanoweave tacsuits(15 billion). They are not active reserve and do not train, but are people who have had the training in the past and can thus be called up.
  • Category 5 reserve infantry has nanoweave tacsuits(15 billion). They are not active reserve and do not train, they have not had the basic training but will do so if needed.

Specialists and support:

  • Army actives have just about switched to Heavy Cybersuits with 125 million in use and 25 million produced/year.
  • Category 1 reserve uses Commando Battlesuits or Monocrys Tacsuit.
  • Category 2 reserve uses Powered Combat Armor or Powered Space Armor or Powered Combat Hardsuits or Monocrys Tacsuit .
  • Category 3 reserve uses Monocrys Suits.
  • Category 4 and 5 reserves use Nanoweave Suits.

Interaction

Army

  • Lots of army troops serve on navy ships as marines so interactions are fairly common.

Survey

  • There is normally very little interaction, as Survey operates mostly in areas where the army does not.

Postal service

  • Army and the postal service have very little interaction.

Marshals

  • Though they operate mostly in same systems, there is very little interaction except when marshals investigate some crime within navy.

Patrol

  • Army troops are deployed on both as ship troops on patrol ships and to protect patrol bases.

Science and Environment

  • Army and the Science and Environment have very little interaction.

Safety

  • Army and Safety have very little interaction.

Education and public information

  • Army and the Education and public information have very little interaction.

Weapon control

  • Army and the Weapon control have very little interaction, except that army might offer heavier firepower in support of some major weapon control operations.

Treasury

  • Army and the Treasury have very little interaction.

Palace guard

  • Army and the Palace guard have very little interaction.

Rangers

  • Rangers and the army have very little interaction, except for the colonial troops.

Special Tactics and Reconnaissance

  • Like all other services army offers assistance when asked.

Local forces:

  • The army often trains with the local ground forces, but have very little interaction with others.
